Course Description

Our PADI Rescue Divers Course

The course is run over 3 days to include academic, confined and open water sessions. The rescue course is available to PADI AOW (or equivalent) In order to be certified as a Rescue diver each student must also have an up to date qualification in emergency first aid. The PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) course comes highly recommended and meets this requirement and can be run alongside your PADI rescue course.

DETAILS:

  • Personal PADI Rescue Diver manual and dive slate
  • 5 theory sessions
  • 4 or 5 pool sessions where you complete 10 scuba diving rescue exercises followed by 1 day completing 4 PADI Open Water Rescue scenarios.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete standard PADI paperwork and Continuing Education Document
  • Read the PADI Rescue Diver manual
  • Watch the PADI Rescue Diver DVD
  • Complete Knowledge Reviews

COMPLETION:

  • Certification as a PADI Rescue Diver
  • This is valid for life but regular practise sessions are highly recommended to maintain your skills. You are welcome to join us on future PADI Rescue Diver courses as a way of maintaining your skills at no extra cost.

The next level is the first professional level of the PADI system of diver education, PADI Divemaster. Alternatively you can go down the non professional route and become a PADI Master Scuba Diver.

Prerequisites

  • Proof of PADI Junior or full PADI Advanced Open Water or equivalent certification
  • Successful completion of a CPR and first aid course within the past two years.
    • We do offer the Emergency First Response course which fulfils this requirement

Health & Fitness

Anyone with an average level of fitness can enjoy scuba diving. You don’t have to be an athlete!

However, some medical conditions such as heart or lung problems could prevent you from participating.

Before signing up for a PADI course, you will be required to complete and sign the standard Continuing Education Document, with any “YES” answer cleared by a doctor.

We recommend taking the form to your doctor for completion before you travel.

House Reef Rules

  1. No Touching Policy
    No gloves to be worn
    Exceptions
    –  Marine biologist or any other recognised institution to take samples for further studies
    –  To remove fishing line or nets
    –  To remove COTS
    –   Exemption medical letter from Doctor
    Notification of intent to carry out any of the above exceptions
  2. Respect Marine Wildlife
    –  No harassing or touching
  3. Entry areas
    –   For Divers —- To inflate BCD at shore line and walk out until waste deep, being careful not to step on any coral, put BCD on and fin out to sandy area and descend
    –   For Snorkeler’s —- To follow instruction of your Guide
  4. Buoyancy control
    –   For Divers —- Practice buoyancy control in sandy or clear area before you dive over corals
    –   For Snorkeler’s —- To follow instruction of your Guide
  5. Streamline your equipment
    Streamline your equipment will help minimise the risk of entanglement accidental disturbance to prevent damage to corals whilst diving.
  6. Taking Photos
    Taking photo or video, use a stick or poker to stabilise your self causing minimal contact with coral, do not use or touch coral with hand or legs to stabiles yourself.
  7. Don’t Collect Underwater Souvenirs
    –  Dead or alive from the Ocean
    Exceptions see Rule 1
  8. Be a Marine Debris Crusader
    Keep our reefs clean if you see litter whist diving in the sanctuary please take time to collect and dispose in trash cans
  9. Exit areas
    Exit the same place where entered take care not to step on coral
  10. Be a Responsible Diver or Snorkeler

Marine Fee

The Alegria Provincial Government established a Marine Park Entrance Fee System based on Tickets. Tickets are purchased for a fee of 100 Pesos (about 2 $) per dive. The local government will utilise these funds to finance a number of high priority conservation programs in the area, including patrols and enforcement to abolish destructive fishing practices such as blast and cyanide fishing, village improvement programs within the park, collection and disposal of plastic and other wastes entering the park’s waters, marine conservation education of village children and adults, and reef and mangrove rehabilitation. Tickets can be purchased through Sta. Filomena Marine Sanctuary in Alegria or at Alegria Dive Resort. We greatly appreciate your support and cooperation with this entrance fee system. Conservation of Sta. Filomena’s spectacular marine habitats requires funding, and your entrance fee is a valuable contribution to saving Alegria’s reefs.
